چکیده

Due to the changes in viewpoint, holes may appear in the novel view synthesized by depth-image-based rendering (DIBR). A hole-filling method combining disparity-mapbased hole-filling and inpainting is proposed. The method first eliminates matching errors in destination image according to the disparity map. Then, holes are classified into different types according to their sizes. Finally, a disparity-map-based approach and an improved exemplar-based inpainting algorithm are used to fill different types of holes according to the type of hole. Experimental results show that the artifacts at the edge of foreground objects can be reduced in synthesized view since the matching errors are eliminated before hole-filling. In addition, the proposed method can achieve more natural and satisfactory results in filled areas in comparison with the disparity-mapbased approach and Gautier’s inpainting algorithm, though it may result in higher time complexity. Hole-filling based on disparity map for DIBR

Due to sharp depth transition, big holes may be found in the novel view that is synthesized by depth-image-based rendering (DIBR). A hole-filling method based on disparity map is proposed. One important aspect of the method is that the disparity map of destination image is used for hole-filling, instead of the depth image of reference image. Firstly, the big hole detection based on disparity ma...

Virtual View Synthesis Based on DIBR and Image Inpainting

In 3DTV research, virtual view synthesis is a key component to the technology. Depth-image-based-rendering (DIBR) is an important method to realize virtual view synthesis. However, DIBR always results in hole problems where the depth and colour values are not known. Hole-filling methods often cause other problems, such as edge-ghosting and cracks. This paper proposes an algorithm that uses the ...

Depth-Aided Exemplar-Based Disocclusion Filling for DIBR View Synthesis

Depth-image-based-rendering (DIBR) is a popular method of synthesizing new views of scenes using traditional images accompanied by depth maps. However these new view suffer from disocclusion holes ‒ background areas revealed by the viewpoint change which have no image or depth data. The filling of disocclusion holes has been an area of development since 2011. This paper seeks to further develop...

Joint Projection Filling method for occlusion handling in Depth-Image-Based Rendering

This paper addresses the disocclusion problem which may occur when using Depth-Image-Based Rendering (DIBR) techniques in 3DTV and Free-Viewpoint TV applications. A new DIBR technique is proposed, which combines three methods: a Joint Projection Filling (JPF) method to handle disocclusions in synthesized depth maps; a backward projection to synthesize virtual views; and a full-Z depth-aided inp...

Stereo Image Synthesis by View Morphing with Stereo Consistency

We show how to synthesize stereo images by adjusting camera separation to produce customized stereopsis and by changing the viewpoint to accommodate a head-tracked 3D display. We propose an improved method for stereo image synthesis from a pair of wide-baseline stereo images and corresponding disparity maps. To give proper depth in hole regions caused by disocclusion, we introduce a hole fillin...
